Amira is a consultant gynaecologist, with expertise and additional training in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology. She obtained her medical qualification from the University of Melbourne in 2010, then completed her training in obstetrics and gynaecology across various sites in both Victoria and Queensland. She is a consultant gynaecologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital, and also holds a public appointment in Box Hill Hospital, where she is the clinical lead in the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service.

Amira is highly involved with the mentoring and education of medical students and trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology, and is currently part of a research team studying persistent period and pelvic pain in children and young people across Australia.

Amira takes a culturally sensitive, holistic, and patient-centred approach. She can conduct consultations in Arabic where requested. Amira advocates for a LGBTQI+ model of care for all gynaecologic and interdisciplinary health concerns.

Amira’s clinical interests include:

  • The health and well-being of people assigned female at birth with trans or non-binary gender identities
  • Health concerns ranging from those of puberty, menstrual bleeding, fertility, and contraception, to abnormal uterine bleeding and menopausal concerns later in life
  • Holistic care of those experiencing recurrent pain or sexual health concerns, as well surgical management of various gynaecologic conditions

Amira is former Education Officer and current member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (ANZPAG). She is also an active member of the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) and the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society (AGES).
