Pain medicine is an area of medicine that focuses on the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of people in pain. Pain specialists use a broad-based approach to treat pain disorders and may: prescribe medicines; prescribe rehabilitation services; and perform procedures that aim to relieve pain. An important part of treatment is education, and helping clients understand their pain condition. Such management typically involves formulating a comprehensive treatment plan, often with a multidisciplinary team.
Maven Centre’s pain specialist, Dr Megan Eddy, has previously qualified and worked as both a physiotherapist and general practitioner (GP), before completing the two-year pain medicine Fellowship overseen by the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Megan’s special interest and expertise in chronic pelvic pain is an invaluable addition to both the multidisciplinary team at Maven Centre, and its patients.
