Urogynaecology

Urogynaecology is a dedicated sub-specialty area of gynaecology that encompasses female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. It includes the assessment, investigation, and treatment of conditions such as:

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Bladder pain / dysfunction
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Lower genito-urinary tract fistula

Investigating such conditions may include an intimate (pelvic / vaginal) examination, urine tests, a transvaginal / transperineal ultrasound and / or urodynamic studies. Management may include prescribing various medicines and / or performing reconstructive surgery, and often involves collaboration with a specialist women’s health physiotherapist.

Maven Centre’s urogynaecologist specialist Dr Ruth Cameron-Jeffs completed her general obstetrics & gynaecology training through the Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH). She has completed an additional three-years of clinical training in the sub-specialty of urogynaecology at a combination of RWH and The Mercy Hospital for Women. With very few female urogynaecologists in Victoria practising west of East Melbourne, we are proud that Ruth will be able to provide top-notch care to women in both Melbourne’s and Victoria’s west.
